Private Prison Operations Unit

Private Prison operations is responsible to ensure that private prisons, under contract to the Arizona Department of Corrections, complies with all terms of the contracts for the care and management of inmates. Compliance is determined through daily monitoring, which is performed by Department units assigned to each of the private prisons, under contract. In addition to the monitoring responsibility, Private Prison Operations also performs certain inmate management functions which cannot be delegated to the private prison contractors These functions include inmate classification, inmate discipline, staff criminal background clearances, and the inmate release process.
